“Songs Between Worlds" traces a journey through folk memory, new creation, exile, and longing. Beginning with the earthy directness of Komitas’s Armenian songs, the program moves into two world premieres by Rodrigo Ruiz and Patrick Harlin, placing Armenian musical memory in dialogue with contemporary voices. Rachmaninoff’s Op. 38 romances bring the evening into a more private, dreamlike world of Russian lyricism, while zarzuela songs add color, theater, and Spanish-language flair.

Coppia Chamber Players serves as the new resident ensemble for Coppia Concerts. The group's flexible instrumentation draws from a roster of incredible chamber musicians, both locally and nationally based. From masterworks, to newly commissioned works, to undiscovered gems of the chamber music repertoire, Coppia Chamber Players has already earned a reputation for stellar ensemble playing, virtuosity, and lively interpretations.
This program was built around an instrument that rarely takes center stage in chamber music: the double bass. In a variety of settings including solo, duo, and in a remarkable quintet from Prokofiev featuring an unusual combination of winds and strings, you will hear the incredible range and character of this instrument.
Program will include Edgar Meyer's Concert Duo for Violin and Bass, Sergei Prokofiev's Quintet in G Minor, Op. 39, and additional selections.

From masterworks, to newly commissioned works, to undiscovered gems of the chamber music repertoire, Coppia Chamber Players has already earned a reputation for stellar ensemble playing, virtuosity, and lively interpretations.
The program for the evening features a set of premieres from contemporary Korean-American composer Texu Kim (dubbed "one of the most active and visible composers of his generation" by San Francisco Classical Voice) and a rarely heard suite of ballet music from Czech Bohuslav Martinů. Artistic Director Dawn Wohn will debut a commissionioned work for solo violin, followed by Coppia Chamber Players offering a midwest premiere performance of their co-commission for an ensemble of violin, cello, flute, clarinet, and piano.
Martinů's La Revue de cuisine is scored for an unusual septet of winds, brass, strings, and piano. Brought to life by special guest Eleni Katz, bassoon and narrator, this quirky story follows the relationships between a host of kitchen characters: Pot, Lid, Twirling Stick, Broom, and Dishcloth.

The Wohn-Hwangbo Duo features pianist Ellen Hwangbo, the longtime collaborator of Coppia Concerts Artistic Director Dawn Wohn. The pair first formed while they were both doctoral students at Stony Brook University, where they were mentored by legendary chamber musicians Gilbert Kalish and Philip Setzer. Since then, their shared musical chemistry has taken them to prestigious stages across the country, from Lincoln Center in New York City to the intimate Kerrytown Concert Hall in Michigan.
Ellen brings an incredible expressive range and deep collaborative spirit to the ensemble. A highly sought-after collaborator, she regularly performs alongside world-renowned artists like Sandbox Percussion and Tessa Lark and was a member of the award-winning Saguaro Piano Trio.
For this performance, the duo presents an exciting and diverse lineup. The program will include the premiere of a commissioned piece by Jiyoun Chung, alongside romantic works by Amanda Maier (a close friend of Johannes Brahms), and a lesser-known gem by the famed Australian composer Margaret Sutherland. Whether you are a lifelong classical music lover or attending your very first concert, this performance promises a welcoming, engaging, and deeply memorable afternoon of music.

Love transcends political division and darkness in a timely new song cycle by Gabriel Kahane, “one of the finest, most searching songwriters of the day” (The New Yorker), who was dubbed a “one-man cultural Cuisinart” (The New York Times) after his Carnegie Hall debut. In this solo program co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, Kahane interweaves a pocket history of civil resistance and nonviolent protest—drawing inspiration from Sojourner Truth, Vaclav Havel, Martin Luther King Jr., the songs of the 1960s, and more—with a set of new tunes animated by a sincere belief in the power of love and our inescapable interconnectedness.
